Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron are two important Swiss architects known for innovative design using new materials and techniques. The two architects have nearly parallel careers. Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron were born the same year, attended the same school, and in 1978 they formed the architectural partnership, Herzog and de Meuron. In 2001, they were chosen to share the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize.
As well as putting their name to buildings that include the Tate Modern and Beijing 'Bird's Nest' stadium, Herzog and de Meuron designed the highly versatile and energy efficient Pipe ceiling and floor lamp. Launched in 2002 to critical acclaim and manufactured by Artemide, the Pipe soon took pride and place in the Museum of Modern Art, New York as a stand out piece in the category of architecture and design. Here at Ray, the Artemide Pipe is just one example of the range of products we offer that are low in energy use but high in design.
